Le verre produit par ce procédé spécial assure une résistance accrue, il est principalement utilisé pour les vitres latérales et à l’arrière des véhicules.

Comment résiste-t-il ?
Lorsque le verre est soumis à une force de traction, il est contrebalancé par la contrainte de compression de surface. Le verre trempé est trois à cinq fois plus résistant que le verre ordinaire de même épaisseur.

Que se passe-t-il en cas de rupture ?
Il a la particularité de se briser instantanément s'il est cassé en petits « éclats ». Comme il n'y a pas de tessons tranchants ou coupants, il est peu probable que cela puisse causer des blessures graves. C'est pourquoi le verre trempé est également appelé verre de sécurité.
