Infra-red Cut Glass Iris®
What is Iris®?
An invisible coating applied inside the laminated glass reflects the infrared (IR) rays before they can enter the car cabin.
Features and benefits
01
Summer comfort
Improves thermal comfort in summer, reducing perspiration, breathing difficulties, hot seats and steering wheels
02
Thermal reflection
Lowers the temperature up to 15°C by reflecting invisible infrared solar rays, keeping the vehicle more comfortable as soon as you get inside (Depends on environmental conditions)
03
Supports air conditioning
Reduces the time needed to cool down the car interior
04
Environmentally friendly
Enables fuel savings and decreases CO2 emissions by reducing air conditioning needs
05
Mileage increase
On EVs, coated glass will reduce air conditioning needs, resulting in an increased mileage range.
Technical information
01
Concept
An invisible coating applied inside the laminated glass reflects the infrared (IR) rays before they can enter the car cabin.
02
Thermal Comfort
Improves thermal comfort inside the car in summer by reflecting invisible infrared solar rays. Depending on car configuration and climatic conditions, up to 15°C temperature reduction inside.
For example, solar energy transmission is down to 30% compared to 55% when using standard tinted green glass.
03
Solar Energy Transmission
Solar factor (TTS) down to 40% compared to 65% when using a tinted green glass
04
Compatibility
Compatible with other technologies in the windshield (i.e. acoustic glazing, thin glazing, head-up display).
Special techniques such as zoned decoating can be used to ensure radio wave transparency.
